About Jorge Ortiz Yus — Senior Colourist
I’m Jorge Ortiz Yus, a freelance senior colourist based in Barcelona, with over 29 years of experience in colour grading for feature films, television series and advertising. I collaborate with directors, cinematographers and post-production teams to develop the visual identity of each project. I offer international remote colour grading, with supervised sessions and file/link-based reviews.
As a child, images and sound were already a big part of my life. On Sundays I explored my father’s vinyl collection and lost myself listening to Kraftwerk. I photographed my younger siblings with his Yashica camera. I enjoyed observing them, waiting for the right moment and then seeing what the image had captured.
I studied Image and Sound while working in a photographic laboratory and as a sound technician at the local radio station. I chose to pursue images, although music has always stayed with me.
I began training as a colourist when films were still shot on photochemical stock. I worked with Cintel telecines and Kodak and Fuji negatives, experiencing the transition to digital cinema from the grading suite. Almost three decades later, I still enjoy the combination of sensitivity and precision this craft demands.
I have worked on feature films, series and advertising, from early RED One productions to projects with cinema, television and HDR versions. For each one, I try to understand the cinematography’s intention and what the story needs. My work is to develop that intention and sustain it throughout the film, shot by shot.
My recent work includes La bola negra, graded at Moonlight Barcelona. I also worked on La Mesías. For Familiar, I received the Best Colour Grading award at the War of Films festival.
Today I work independently, collaborating with directors, cinematographers and post-production teams. After all these years, my favourite moment is still when an image finds its tone and you know it belongs to the film.
